This area has some of the most spectacular scenery on the Big Island. The towering sea cliffs open into the dramatically deep and meandering valleys of the Kohala Mountains. It is said that at one point in time there was a settlement of over 50,000 Hawaiians that inhabited these valleys. Beautiful waterfalls cascade thousands of feet onto the valley floor where there are still ruins from ancient Hawaiian settlements (tour routes and sights visited may vary according to wind and weather conditions).*
